Paul Kauffman - Master European Craftsman

Biography

PAUL KAUFMANN began his training with an exclusive apprenticeship in Lauterach, Austria in 1983. His extensive schooling included studying with outstanding masters and journeyman from across the European continent. Cultivating his theoretical and practical knowledge in blue prints, machines, wood techniques such as veneering, marquetry, inlays, staining, wood construction, gluing, finishing, hand tools and restoration, he finished his schooling, excelling in accounting and estimating as well.

In 1986, Kaufmann graduated to journeyman and independently began to hone his craft in shop building, kitchens, entertainment centers, offices, antique furniture restoration, working closely with architects and interior designers. In 1991 Kaufmann began his work at the Master School for Cabinetry in Innsbruck, Austria, where he excelled in the study of art history, hand drawing, blue prints, wood technology, chemistry, construction and design, old craftsman techniques, finishing and machine technology.

In July 1992, he completed his Masters Exam in Innsbruck and earned his Mastership title.

Since October of 1992, when Paul Kaufmann relocated to Palm Springs, California, he has owned and operated his hugely successful Paul Kaufmann European Master Craftsman shop. He has worked with highly-acclaimed architects, interior designers, contractors and home-owners where he has designed and created hundreds of kitchens, entertainment centers, offices, bed room sets, built-ins, credenzas, custom tables and furniture, performed restorations and repairs, and used his talents on all aspects of the home where wood is the chosen feature.

Paul Kaufmann’s one-of-a-kind pieces, reception desks and hand-crafted bars are also featured in restaurants in Palm Springs, Palm Desert and Los Angeles. His clients span from Palms Springs, Los Angeles, Pasadena, San Francisco and New York.
